Good camps do not have to be expensive

Museums, government agencies, universities and sports bodies in Taiwan run free or low-cost programs for children, from one-day museum camps to week-long sports camps. The catch is usually the sign-up: windows can be short, popular sessions go by lottery, and some programs are only for local students. Everything below comes from official pages and brochures, checked for this site; most details are from summer 2026, since summer 2027 programs have not been announced yet.

Free

Taipower's Ball Sports Fun Camp ran 12 free five-day sessions from July 7 to August 29, 2026 in baseball, volleyball, badminton, soccer and basketball, with 3,600 places at venues around Taiwan; online sign-up was open only from May 14 to 27. The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung ran free one-day art camps taught mainly in Taiwanese in summer 2026, lunch included. The National Museum of Taiwan Literature in Tainan ran a free 5-day children's curator camp for grades 3 to 6, with a NT$500 deposit returned after taking part in everything and a lottery when a group was full. Hualien County's English summer camp was free with a NT$500 deposit, taught by foreign teachers. Taipei's woodball association ran a free four-afternoon woodball camp in Neihu, and National Taiwan Ocean University ran a free two-day ocean camp for senior high students.

Under NT$1,000

The Taipei Astronomical Museum's summer day camps were NT$600 for one day and NT$950 for two days, meals and admission included, with places by lottery when full. Chiayi County's Space Education Museum ran 21 one-day science camps for NT$500 and energy lab days for NT$700, lunch included. National Ilan University's one-day circuits camp for high school students was NT$200. Through December 2026, the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung runs weekend hands-on sessions for NT$100 to 300; the National Science and Technology Museum in Kaohsiung ran weekend workshops for NT$300 to 450 in October 2026, and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum's story sessions are free with museum admission.

Low cost: about NT$1,000 to 5,000 a camp

Taipei's public elementary school summer camps started at NT$800 in 2026, depending on length and overnight stays. A Yilan nature journaling camp for senior high students cost NT$1,200 for an overnight stay with some meals, with the rest paid by the county (the brochure also mentions a NT$200 meal fee, so ask whether it is extra). YunTech's half-day winter 2027 classes in Yunlin start at NT$1,500 for a two-day class, plus NT$100 game rental; none is confirmed to run until enough children sign up. Chung Shan Medical University's two-day medical camp for grades 7 to 12 is NT$3,300, the NCCU English Camp was NT$3,800 for three days and two nights, and Weiwuying's youth drama camp was NT$4,500. Programs for local students

City governments run large summer programs for their own students, often cheap or free. In 2026, Taipei's elementary school camps were booked by lottery from May 12 to 18 and mainly for students at Taipei schools, and Taoyuan's city platform opened on May 29, with some camps free. If you live in one of these cities, these are often the best value; the summer planning guide shows when they open.

Free or cheaper places for families with low income

Several camps keep places for students from low-income or lower-middle-income households, usually with proof. In 2026, NYCU's 5-day coding camp for high school students was free for them, National Ilan University's camps were free for them, and NTNU's summer science lab camp offered a chance at a free place. NCCU kept 3 English camp places at NT$1,000, Fu Jen's business camp charged NT$4,000 instead of NT$7,100, NCHU's vet camp kept two half-price places, and Yushan National Park funded four places on its youth climb. For winter 2027, the NTNU science camps give 30% off for low-income, lower-middle-income and Indigenous students, and the NTU and NYCU physical therapy camp charges NT$7,900 instead of NT$8,900. Ask each organizer what proof they need.
